Ford to Bring Hybrid Lincoln MKZ to New York Auto Show

(March 28, 2010 )

The Ford Motor Company has revealed its plans to unveil a hybrid version of its Lincoln MKZ sedan on Wednesday at the New York Auto Show. The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid will be the first luxury hybrid from the FoMoCo.

“I thought they should have done it before,” said Chris Lemley, who owns several dealerships in the Boston metropolitan area. “I’m glad they’re doing it now.” He further added that Ford may be able to take advantage of Toyota's recent recall of products from its luxury?Lexus?brand.

Sources report that the hybrid model will be based on the platform underpinning the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrid. The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid gets a 156-hp 2.5L 4-cylinder engine which is mated to an electric-motor. The combination produces a total of 191-hp and 136 lb-ft of torque.

What stands as a concern is the price that the Detroit maker will attach to the hybrid sedan and how the vehicle will be able to stand out from its hybrid counterparts. The analysts also fear that limited delivery of hybrid powertrain from the suppliers may be a major impediment in the company's way.
