Toyota is once again in the news, and this time thankfully its for a good reason. The Japanese auto giant has announced a new Safety Pack option for its third generation Toyota Prius.
The Adaptive Cruise Control on the other hand employs the same radar system to automatically adjust vehicle speed in order to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. In case of coming closer to a slow vehicle on the road the Adaptive Cruise Control slows the Prius by reducing engine power and braking if required. If it cannot slow the vehicle sufficiently, an alarm is sounded to alert the driver.
As explained by the company, the Pre-Crash Safety system uses millimeter-wave system and lane detection cameras to monitor the road ahead and detect the risk of a collision. On finding a high probability of running into a crash, it first alerts the driver with a buzzer and warning lights on the dashboard. In case the driver fails to respond on time, it automatically activates the front seatbelt pre-tensioners and initiates emergency braking to minimize the consequences of the impact.
