The new Nissan Micra is being unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month. According to company insiders, it will be accompanied by two more variants. From the stable of the second biggest car maker in Japan, the first generation of the Micra dates back to the early 1980s and is currently sold in Europe and some parts of Asia.
Nissan has designed the V Platform exclusively for its sub-compact models so as to utilize the benefits of a low cost, high volume architecture. Nissan is aiming big for the sales of the new compact Micra. The company has more than 150 countries in its sight,?entering Europe and Japan by the year end and the US by early 2011.
Reports claimed that Nissan was working on three small cars based on its latest V platform. Among these, the next generation Micra is scheduled to make its world debut on March 2nd at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Two of the three cars will probably be sold in the U.S. with?a low price tag starting at about $10,000. Production is expected to be carried out in Mexico, India and Thailand.
“We are aiming to generate new values with smart new ideas,” said Vincent Cobee, project leader for the new global car. Cobee also said that the automaker is aiming to build 1,000,000 units of the new compact car every year.
