Volkswagen has unveiled the 2011 Phaeton at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show in order to boost sales in its luxury car segment. With revamped editions of its competitors from Bmw , Mercedes and Audi already in the market, this car is going to face a stiff competition in the market,?epecially since the first model of the vehicle met with disappointing sales in Europe and had to be subsequently withdrawn from the United States. The new Phaeton has a lot of changes in its styling including a new face with bi-xenon headlights, LED running lights and a new grille. A new bonnet and redesigned front bumper complete the transformation. Volkswagen is looking to capture the attention of buyers in the new markets of China and South Korea.
The engine lineup consists of six-, eight- and twelve-cylinder engines ranging in capacity from 240 horsepower to 450 horsepower. The standard unit is said to be a V6 with 206 kW/280 PS. The standard engine can achieve the 0 to 62 miles per hour target in 8.2 seconds with a top speed of 147 miles per hour. The fuel economy is a very respectable 27.7 mpg.
Besides this, the car probably has the best air conditioning system in its segment with humidity function and climate control systems.. Volkswagen is offering Google Maps on its satellite navigation system for the first time in any model. This all-wheel drive system comes with adjustable air suspension and Continuous Damping Control (CDC).
The price and specification of the facelifted Phaeton will be revealed close to its release date in August.
