Panoz Teases its Abruzzi Sports car Ahead of Le Mans Unveiling

(May 5, 2010 )

The front-engined Abruzzi as revealed from the teaser features hood vents, bulging fenders, and distinctive taillights. According to the details from Panoz, the body will be constructed from a special REAMS (Recyclable Energy Absorbing Matrix System) material, which ?is said to provide great environmental, performance and structural advantages. Also the Abruzzi will use a ‘trifecta’ cooling system which has been designed ?to improve engine performance and efficiency. It consists of a traditional high-efficiency radiator and two other cooling units which lower the coolant temperature before entering and exiting the radiator.

Georgia-based small-volume American car manufacturer Panoz has also built the AIV Roadster and Esperante. The design of its latest offering Abruzzi ,according to the automaker is “ inspired from a classic era when racers would literally drive their own cars to Le Mans to compete and then drive back home. However, the technology of the Panoz Abruzzi ‘Spirit of Le Mans’ is absolutely leading-edge.” It is being speculated that the power will come from a 4.6-litre Ford V8 capable of producing around 300bhp.

The first official picture of ?AbruzziSpirit of Le Mans” sports car has been released by its maker Panoz. The car is set to launch at next month’s Le Mans 24 Hours.

“We are truly excited about the Panoz Abruzzi – not only about the design and performance of the car – but by the whole conceptit represents,” said company boss Don Panoz.

The complete details will be available after the car is officially unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 5 June.
