Toyota has unveiled two of its much awaited vehicles for the U.S market at the New York Auto Show. The two cars have been addressed as the ‘new dimension of Scion ’. The all-new 2011 iQ premium micro-subcompact and the second-generation 2011 tC sports coupe have finally made their debut on the American soil.
The Toyota iQ that now comes to the?U.S. with a Scion badging overall remains close to its European and Japanese?siblings. The Scion iQ comes with a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces over 90 horsepower combined with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The iQ will be rated as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV-II),
The 3+1 seating equation that fits in three adults plus one small child which, according to the automaker, makes the Scion iQ the world’s smallest four-passenger vehicle. The car measures 120.1 inches with 66.1 inches of width and a 78.7 inch wheelbase.
Active safety features include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Traction Control (TRAC). The iQ will come standard with 10 SRS airbags a six-speaker audio system with USB and auxiliary ports.
Standing beside the Scion iQ is the second-generation of Scion’s tC compact coupe, carrying 'an aggressive new look, increased driving performance, and a more premium feel.' The power boost has been achieved by a new 2.5-liter inline-four cylinder engine that gives a 19 HP and 11 lb-ft improvement?thus delivering 180 HP and 173 lb-ft of torque.?The Scion tC features two all-new transmissions: the six-speed manual transmission and a new six-speed automatic gains two gears along with sequential-shift.
The coupe rides on a new platform and gets a specially tuned MacPherson strut front-suspension and a double-wishbone rear-suspension with a lowered ride height. Larger 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and 16-inch disc brakes on all corners are also available.
Inside, Scion’s 2011 tC coupe according to the Japanese automaker has driver-oriented cockpit with the instrument-panel, gauge cluster and center-console all facing inward in a V-shape. ?The cabin has been lengthened for a more comfortable passenger experience with reclining rear seats that split 60/40, providing more storage capacity. The panoramic moonroof remains standard in the new tC.
The price details for both the Scion models have not been revealed. The Scion iQ and the Scion tC are expected to arrive in the?U.S. sometime later this fall.
